Professional mediation is a type of alternative dispute resolution process which can be used in business, civil, and family disputes. It involves nonbinding intervention between parties, designed to promote an understanding of each person's grievance through a fair, even-handed airing of each person's point of view, and to encourage a resolution, reconciliation, settlement, or compromise without extended and expensive legal proceedings.
